Flower in the rock at Lamoille Lake, Nevada.

What do you see when you look at the blog-post picture above?  This picture was taken while on a hike, we stopped for a snack and while sitting there on our giant rock, I peered over the edge and discovered this beauty.  It captivated my thoughts, and it made me think, “How?!?!?”

How did this happen?  How did the seed land in the tiny little crack?  How did the right amount of moisture get there?  How did the right amount of sunlight get in there?  How are the roots attached?  How is it receiving nutrients?  The questions go on…and the reality is that the “how” is not known to me, but oh how I can celebrate in the WOW!  Something so cool, something that points me directly to God, something that makes me just smile in awe.  So, what do I see when I look at this picture?  I see a miracle!

The definition of a miracle is, “a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency”.  I believe that nature provides a lot of miracles.  See photo above!  Look at anyone alive, look at the intricacies of color patterns in flowers, and the flight of the bumble bee, unexplainable healing, the list goes on and on – there is so much we cannot explain!  Interactions with people also provide miracles.  The encouraging word at just the right time, the new friend who brings a talent you need, the help alongside the road when your tire is flat, the list goes on and on – there are so many interactions that ‘just happened’!  When we open our eyes to inexplicable detail, organization, and events, what we are really doing is, opening our eyes to see God.   We open ourselves up to the witness of the very real presence of God in our daily and modern lives.

How might our daily lives improve when we purposefully look for, observe, and celebrate miracles?
